We are delighted that Dr Kevin McFarthing has agreed to provide a Parkinson’s research update during the Fighting Fit weekend of 22-24 March.
Kevin spent many years in senior R&D roles at Reckitt Benckiser, a multi-national consumer goods company producing health, hygiene and home products.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012 and is the Oxford Branch committee member tasked with keeping track of research news.
Kevin has been following global Parkinson’s research activity and provides a regular update report, the ‘Hope List’. He also talks to groups of people with Parkinson’s and their families about the projects that have made it out of the research laboratory and are now in development or trial by pharmaceutical companies. He was recently appointed the joint editor of the new Clinical Trial Highlights section of the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease.
Kevin talks in a straightforward fashion, avoiding scientific jargon and engaging his audience with accessible information delivered with a true sense of realism.
Fighting Fit is an innovative residential weekend programme for younger and working-age people with Parkinson’s that encourages self-awareness and helps each participant to take greater control of their life. The aim is to provide information and sign-posting, to share experiences and discuss the practical and emotional impact of living and working with Parkinson’s.
