It is just 12 months since Fighting Fit was launched and over the last year a lot of good things have happened.

Here are some quick facts:

  • Over 1650 unique users visited the Fighting Fit website
  • The average visit lasted just over 3 minutes
  • 80% of people were under 65 years old and 30% were under 45
  • 60% of website visitors were female
  • Nearly 250 people have signed up for the Fighting Fit newsletter
  • We have delivered 3 weekends in Aylesbury and have another one fully booked in October and are already taking bookings for March 2020
  • We are starting a new programme in Leeds in November
  • By the end of 2019 over 100 working-age people with Parkinson’s will have attended a Fighting Fit programme.

We received many glowing testimonials such as the following:

“It was life-changing”.
“The weekend was great and will impact my life”.
“I definitely feel much more educated, informed and positive about the future”.
“I will commit to do more exercise – I promise!”.
“Thank you to everyone who took part. I learned so much from all of you and it was a privilege to share the weekend with such inspirational and caring and supportive people”.

On behalf of the participants there are so many people to thank – our wonderful volunteer facilitators, our excellent visiting speakers and especially Parkinson’s UK who have supported us throughout.

There is still a huge amount to do to support more working-age people with Parkinson’s but during this year we have made a start.

Fighting Fit is an innovative residential weekend programme for younger and working-age people with Parkinson’s that encourages self-awareness and helps each participant to take greater control of their life. The aim is to provide information and sign-posting, to share experiences and discuss the practical and emotional impact of living and working with Parkinson’s.
