We are members of the Working Age Group of the Aylesbury Branch of PUK and we have had the privilege of acting as facilitators for both of the Fighting Fit courses run so far. It has been both an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Each weekend is action packed with exercise, social activities, presentations and workshops The objective is to provide people with information and openly discuss the practical and emotional effects the condition has on work and life in general.

We have met some wonderful people, all of whom were determined to gain as much knowledge as possible about their condition. We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm with which delegates tackled the many and varied forms of exercise from boxing to spinning and of course PD Warrior. Often resulting in a commitment to carry on with a newly found passion!

Equally impressive was the engagement with the workshops and diverse topics addressed by guest speakers such as an update on the latest research, managing medications, benefits and skills for working life.

The course is for meeting like minded people with Parkinson’s and to have the opportunity to talk openly about shared experiences. The friendships which developed over the weekends mean the delegates continue to provide support to each other and is perhaps the most important ‘lesson’ of the course.

We do not have to face the condition alone.
